Flowmeter is an instrument that measures the linear, nonlinear, mass or volumetric, rates of a liquid or a gas.Flow measurement is the movement of bulk fluid in quantification. It can be measured in a number of ways.
TURBINE METER
A turbine meter is a type of meter that measures the velocity of water flow to verify the total amount used. A turbine meter is less accurate than a displacement or a jet meter at measuring low flow rates but the element of measuring does not control the path of flow completely. The direction of flow is normally directly through the meter, which results in flow rates being higher and pressure loss being lower, unlike the displacement form of meters. Thus, a turbine meter is a preferable option for fire protection, large business users, and for the water distribution system where it is regarded as the master meter.
A turbine meter is usually available for 1 ¨C ?¡± to 12¡± or pipe sizes which are higher. Turbine meters are generally made of ductile iron, bronze or cast iron. The internal elements of the turbine are usually non-corrosive or plastic metal alloys. A few types of turbine meters include fire meters and fire hydrant meters. A fire meter is a special type of turbine meter which has been approved for fire protection because of its high flow rates. A fire hydrant meter is a special type of moveable turbine meter that measures water from a hydrant.
